Coming up Saturday, May 4th, the city of Lawton will be holding its annual Trash Off. Starting at 8 am groups can pick up supplies at the Great Plains Museum to collect trash around town. The city will also have receptacles in front of the museum for disposing of large waste items and items trash collections don’t usually pick up like paint, etc. We’re going to spend the day around our building and along 38th St. cleaning up the area. The city and the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority would like other groups and people to participate as well. If you have a group interested in helping please contact Lawton Neighborhood Services at 580-581-3467.
Saturday, May 18th will be one of the largest Armed Forces Day parades in the country held right here in Lawton. This year’s theme “A Step Into The Past: Celebrating Fort Sill’s 150th Birthday and Honoring our Armed Forces History” will highlight the historic birthday of Fort Sill as well as recognize the history of our military. More than 100 participants are set to march through downtown Lawton in the event.
