EARLY 2019 SALES NUMBERS
Early numbers for 2019 are showing a little slower than normal start to the year on the sales side. Through February, for the entire market (Comanche, Cotton Counties and parts of Caddo, Stephens, Kiowa, and Grady), there were 169 closed sales compared to 210 for the same period in 2018. Properties going under contract were a little better but down slightly from last year. However, average sales price showed a slight increase from the end of December with the market having an average sales price of $128,875 for the first two months of the year. That’s up about 1.5% from the end of the year.
LAWTON ONE OF THE MOST AFFORDABLE MARKETS
In January Zillow, the real estate website, reported that Lawton was the second least expensive rental market in the country out of the country’s 500 largest cities. With a median rental rate of $710, it was second to Flint, Michigan, as the lowest in the country’s major cities. On the sales side, the Lawton market is 18th out of the top 500 cities in affordability which still puts it in the top 4% in the country.
